About Us
Culham Custom Woodwork Ltd. was incorporated in 2007 by Steve & Laura Culham. While both are passionate about woodwork and the fine details, their journeys to the trade are unique.
Steve grew up helping on his grandfathers tree farm, which ignited his strong work ethic. His first real woodworking project at the age of 14 was a guitar made from a piece of cherry from his parents backyard. Steve's parents took notice and when they started building a family home they through him in the thick of things; from digging foundations to putting shingles on the roof. The care and construction of such projects lead him to study set design and sound engineering at Grant MacEwan, which translated his hobby of carpentry to wanting to creating a career of it. He quickly began to work with a high-end builder, specializing in homes in the Glenora community. Those years of hands-on experience reinforced his love of building and working with wood. After several years of gaining knowledge Steve decided it was time to go start his own venture.
Laura, on the other hand, began with the technical side of interior design. She studied Architectural Technology at NAIT and began working with a local design firm on large-scale commercial projects. She was drafting for schools and seniors homes by day, and assisting Steve with his growing list of projects at night. Eventually the demand for their work was large enough the make it a full time endeavour, thus Culham Custom Woodwork Ltd. began.
With a consistent and exceptionally skilled team of journeymen cabinetmakers, millworkers and carpenters behind them, Steve & Laura collaborate with many well established home builders in Edmonton and the surrounding area. They work closely with many designers to help bring their vision to reality, but also work to create original pieces when given the opportunity. Custom cabinetry and finishing pieces often seem costly, but with local sourcing and a private workspace/showroom at their disposal, Culham's work is competitively priced while the quality is substantial.
